The Shenzhen-based company, Royole, which unveiled its first foldable smartphone last year, now brings its successor known Royole FlexPai 2. The new foldable phone uses third-generation Cicada Wing flexible display, which significantly improved than the last model. According to the company, the new display panel offers a 1mm bend radius from the previous 3 mm radius and it can still last for more than 200,000 turns.
Further, the company has also partnered with ZTE to expand its use of flexible display technology. Apart from this, the new foldable also perform with top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor.
Royal FlexPi 2: Design and display
The Royal FlexPi 2 retains a hingeless foldable design and offers a third-generation Cicada Wing Full Flexible Display (FFD) panel which has a comprehensive technical upgrade. It uses a JNCD (Just Noticeable Color Difference) below 0.6 and provides 1.2 times faster response time which is 0.4ms.
Unlike other foldable displays, it has 1.5-times better brightness and the company also suggests that the smooth mirror-like structure that made with more than 100 micro-nano materials delivers less crease effect.
Royole used an in-house OLED technology
The company said that the new foldable phone comes with its proprietary OLED technology to remove the effect of layer peeling which we can see on other foldable display panels. Besides, the new phone is scratch-resistant.
When unfolded, it offers a 7.8-inch display panel along with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It provides 1.3x better color gamut and 500x better contrast than the traditional top-end LCD panel.
The foldable phone powered with the flagship processor
Besides the new display features, the phone is also powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor, paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage capacity.
Accordingly, it carries a quad rear camera system and offers a dual-LED flash. For audio, the phone gets “true” stereo speakers.
